The JavaScript landscape got extra exciting recently when Astro announced Webflow has made a $150,000 donation to the Astro project—quickly matched by Cloudflare. Astro is rapidly becoming the framework of choice for building ultra-fast, content-driven websites, thanks to its islands architecture and performance-first approach.
Amidst all this momentum, I became curious about how these tools fit together in a real agency workflow. So, during our inaugural HNDRX Studio Jam, I set out to explore the synergy between Webflow DevLink, Astro, and the newly launched Webflow Cloud.
For context, Webflow DevLink, introduced at Webflow Conf in 2023, lets you design components visually in Webflow, then sync them directly into React (and, with a bit of work, Astro) projects for design parity. Webflow Cloud further ups the ante by allowing full-stack web app deployment, bridging your marketing site with modern JavaScript frameworks and backend logic.
In my post, I share hands-on lessons learned from integrating visual Webflow components into a fully server-rendered Astro app—with plenty of surprises, workarounds, and gotchas along the way. From deployment headaches and DevLink quirks to real-world solutions for seamless brand consistency, you’ll get a front-row view of what’s possible when combining a powerful no-code CMS with modern development workflows.
